Episode 1: Pilot

Summary

Pilot episode of the comedy following the exploits of four cash-strapped, Brooklyn women in their twenties struggling to balance their love lives while finding their feet amid the bustle of New York City. Aspiring writer Hannah Horvath fails to find support from her sex-buddy Adam, while her flatmate Marnie has doubts about the future of her relationship with suffocating boyfriend Charlie. Starring Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke

Review

Girls is like no sitcom you’ve seen before. The main character, Hannah Horvath, is gobby, broke, and not remotely interested in finding “the one”. Instead we get frequent glimpses of her potbelly as she has terrible sex with her on/off boyfriend – it’s more likely to make you gasp than giggle.

When Girls was broadcast in the States it had some in raptures and others up in arms. This viewer found it addictive and wonderfully refreshing but it’s not for the faint-hearted. The series kicks off with a double bill.
