Episode 2: Reunion

Summary

As the hosts continue to revolt, Dolores remembers that she has been in the outside world, and William makes a bold business venture. Starring Evan Rachel Wood and Ed Harris

Review

Westworld plays with time in clever and seductive ways. This episode’s prologue returns us to the prelapsarian world, where the AI “hosts” of the western theme park hadn’t developed full awareness. The newly online Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) looks at the home of her programmer Bernard for the first time, and is awestruck. Seeing skyscrapers at night, she says, “It looks like stars have been scattered across the ground.” There is a silky poetry to the scene, as Bernard’s cynicism is eroded by her innocence.

Back in the here and now, of course, the robots are fully sentient – and the consequences are deadly. As past and present collide, there are casting surprises and plot twists galore, so it helps to stay focused.
