Episode 1: Ordinary Lies

Summary

Workplace drama following the lives of a group of colleagues and friends, this time based at the call centre and warehouse of a sports sales company. Joe is the life and soul of the office and always the first to tell a joke, but his cheery demeanour takes a hit when he is sent home early from work after an injury to find his wife Belinda is acting strangely. Suspecting she is having an affair, he makes the desperate decision to install CCTV cameras around his house. Con O'Neill stars

Review

Note the missing “V” in the title. Danny Brocklehurst’s drama is of course about ordinary lives and the fallout when they get knocked off course, but it’s invariably lies that cause the trouble and set the characters scrambling to right themselves – or dig a deeper hole.

As with the first series, which was set in a car dealership, we get linked morality tales about people who work together – this time, at a sportswear firm in Cardiff – but who little suspect each other’s secrets.

We start with sales boss Joe (Con O’Neill), a full-volume extrovert who starts each day striding into the office telling a naff joke (“So there’s this inflatable school…”), but we sense he has painful secrets in his past.

Sent home early from work he finds his wife acting oddly and decides to fit hidden cameras in his house. But spying on your own family? That never turns out well.
