Review

The annual summer battle on the oche returns to its spiritual home by the seaside at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, following last year’s pandemic-hit staging at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes which, frankly, never came close to replicating the grand Lancashire venue that has hosted the PDC competition since 1994.

For the next nine days, 32 players will battle it out for the Phil Taylor trophy, named after the 16-time winner of the tournament, with a total prize fund of £700,000 making it one of the more lucrative events on the calendar. Set to be played in front of a full house from Monday, but with a reduced crowd for the first two days, it’s guaranteed to be an electric affair.
