Discovering Film: Horror Special

Summary

Authors and film critics including Bonnie Greer and Ian Nathan come together to dissect their favourite horror movies, from The Omen and The Exorcist to Frankenstein and Psycho

Review

Fans of scary movies can usually cite the moment they were first gleefully frightened witless. For me, it’s Halloween’s Jamie Lee Curtis in bell-bottomed jeans trying frantically to flee from a masked Michael Myers, who is stalking her at walking pace in the suburbs. I remember feeling petrified, yet safe, because I was watching it all on telly. And I think I’ve been trying to recapture that sense of cosy terror ever since.

No previews of this history of horror were available, but I’m hoping that John Carpenter’s 1978 classic will be included in a rundown of critics’ picks that’s set to feature the likes of Psycho, Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist.
