The premiere episode, which landed on 4th April on BBC One at 9pm, left viewers reeling with a huge death twist.

And it looks like there's more chaos to come in The Split season 3, with first-look images hinting at trouble between Nicola Walker’s Hannah and husband Stephen Mangan’s Nathan, who complicates their divorce proceedings by bringing a new woman into the mix this time around.

Abi Morgan (Suffragette) recently teased wedding bells in The Split season 3, but whose wedding will it be?

"We're building towards a marriage," she told RadioTimes.com. "Whose marriage could it be? It could be anybody's, so I'm excited about that."

Fans upset to hear that season 3 will be the drama’s final instalment needn’t worry, as the show's creator has previously teased a potential spin-off.

What’s more, Stephen Mangan has said he would “absolutely” reprise his role in a sequel or spin-off series.

Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com, Mangan joked: "Nathan and Christie open an antiques boutique in the Cotswolds together."

He continued: "All you want as an actor is to be in stuff like this that’s well written, well acted, well directed, well produced and popular and interesting. So yeah, absolutely, of course."

The official synopsis reads: "This farewell series, equal parts electrifying, witty and heart-breaking, continues to put the Defoe sisters and their matriarch at its heart; a group of powerful women working together to help their clients, their colleagues and each other as they continue to navigate the messiness of life."

Set 10 months after Nathan and Hannah's marriage ended and the extent of her betrayal is revealed, the two professional divorce lawyers are negotiating their divorce. However, as the stakes become clear, Hannah realises how much she could lose.

BBC teases a “shocking revelation that dramatically changes the stakes", adding: “Battle lines are redrawn, their dream of achieving the ‘good divorce’ is left in tatters.”

Abi Morgan said: “It’s great to be back writing for the Defoe Family, and to dive once more into to the complications of their lives and those of their clients.

"In the final series of this bittersweet trilogy, Hannah faces the heartbreak of her own divorce, and the fight to save her family and her marriage.

"Siblings clash, past mistakes are exposed and hearts are broken as Noble Hale and Defoe notches up more billable hours in the divorce capital of the world.”

The Split continues on BBC One on 4th April at 9pm, with seasons 1 and 2 available to stream on BBC iPlayer now. Take a look at what else is on with our TV guide.
