Andrea McLean may not be an obvious choice of celebrity to tackle a special forces assault course, but she’s been doing just that as part of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.
The show, which aims to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, saw the 49-year-old struggle in the first episode, when she admitted she was “fragile” after she was shouted at by the Directing Staff.
But while Chief of Staff Ant Middleton praised her for her immense amount of inner strength, McLean is set to struggle again in this Sunday’s upcoming episode as she battles the blisteringly cold temperatures of the Chilean mountains.
After climbing and reverse abseiling down a rock face, the former GMTV presenter’s body temperature plummets.
“I can’t stop shivering,” she tells her teammates in the episode. “My legs, my arms. Everything is shaking.”
While her fellow celebrities do their best to warm McLean up, she eventually feels drowsy and faint, and Middleton is forced to pull her off the course for emergency medical treatment. She is later diagnosed with hypothermia.
With her place in the competition left in doubt, Middleton checks on whether she would return to the intense seven day course. Will she be able to continue?
“You’ve pushed yourself to your very limits to a whole different stage,” Middleton tells a recovering McLean. “You’ve overcome so much. You’ve done extremely well.”
Speaking about her experience on the show at a recent press day, McLean explained, “There were so many times during where I knew I wasn’t going to be the fittest or the strongest, but I knew I wasn’t going to give up.”
She added jokingly, “The menopause does make it a struggle to regulate your body temperature. So it wasn’t my fault!”

McLean is not the only celebrity to struggle in the second episode, with TV presenter AJ Odudu collapsing after burning herself out during one task.
With the celebs asked to carry tyres and wood logs, Odudu finds herself carrying twice the load after her teammate Sam Thompson struggles.
After passing out and failing to meet the finish line, it is once again up to Middleton and the other DS’s as to whether Odudu should be allowed to carry on with the training.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4
