Strictly Come Dancing’s Aliona Vilani breaks her ankle training with Johnny Ball

Pro dancer suffers a hairline fracture in accident that may rule her out of the competition for four weeks

Strictly Come Dancing pro dancer Aliona Vilani suffered a hairline fracture to her ankle earlier this week, which will cause her to miss the first Strictly live show on Friday 5 October.

The injury occurred while 28-year old Aliona was training with partner Johnny Ball on Thursday and may see the Russian-Kazkhakstani dancer sidelined for up to four weeks.

She took to Twitter yesterday to post pictures of her injured ankle, before tweeting: “Thank you all so much for your amazing messages of support!!!! I’m sure I’ll recover soon.”

The BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing website reports that Aliona is booked in for an assessment by medical professionals today, which will confirm exactly how long she will be kept off the show.

Vilani was part of the winning couple on last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing when she partnered McFly drummer Harry Judd, and she came second in 2010 while dancing with The One Show’s Matt Baker.
