Parminder Nagra, Shobna Gulati and Brooke Kinsella all paid respects to Paul Bhatteacharjee who had a role in EastEnders as well as the 2006 Bond movie

Bend It Like Beckham actress Parminder Nagra was among those paying tribute to actor Paul Bhattacharjee who has been found dead in East Sussex.

The 53-year-old – who played a doctor in 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale – disappeared on 10 July after being seen leaving London’s Royal Court theatre where he was due to appear on stage this week.

Police have since confirmed that a body found at Splash Point cliffs in Seaford on 12 July was the actor who has also appeared in several episodes of EastEnders between 2008 and 2010 as Masood’s brother Inzamam, along with a string of TV parts in Waking the Dead, Spooks and The Bill. Last year he played the part of Benedick opposite Meera Syal’s Beatrice in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Nagra, Stephen Fry and Sex and the City actress Kim Cattrall were among those who took to Twitter to help find the actor, with the Bend It Like Beckham actress also posting following the announcement of his death: “Very sad to hear the news about Paul Bhattacharjee. My thoughts are with his loved ones.”

Former EastEnders actress, Brooke Kinsella, also reacted to the news on Twitter, writing, “Thoughts, prayers, heart goes out to Paul Bhattacharjee and his family xxxx” while ex-Coronation Street star, Shobna Gulati, tweeted, “Just got the news, deeply saddened by Paul’s death. He will be truly missed and my respects and thoughts to his family and dear friends.”
