It's fair to say the 2022-23 season was one of the Reds' worst in recent years as they finished outside the Champions League spots, although a smashing summer transfer window and a return to their heavy-metal football has them back in the title race.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp knows a batch of new recruits could be crucial to his hopes of lifting the Premier League trophy before his departure at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool's potential transfer business is up in the air at the moment after Klopp announced he'll leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Former Reds midfielder Xabi Alonso is in contention to replace Klopp at Liverpool, while Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi is also a potential successor.

Liverpool have been busy rebuilding their midfield over the last six months and that could continue in January or in the summer.

A ding-dong transfer battle with Manchester United for Bayern Munich's lynchpin in the engine room, Joshua Kimmich, has been mooted as potentially coming to fruition.

In terms of outgoings, Virgil van Dijk could be a shock departure, with the Liverpool stopper admitting he isn't sure whether he'll be part of the Reds' post-Klopp era.

That could be why Liverpool are said to have made contact with Argentinean outfit CA Talleres over Colombian defender Kevin Mantilla.

The 20-year-old is said to be a target for the Reds, who have been tracking the centre-back for some time.
