Emmerdale: Jane Cox “didn’t like” Zak and Joanie’s affair storyline

"Lisa and Zak were the only characters whose relationship was as solid as a rock and I felt that was a good thing for the village," says the actress

Relationship bust-ups may be a staple part of soap operas but actress Jane Cox isn’t happy about the current Emmerdale plotline that has seen Dingle patriarch Zak cheat on her character Lisa.

“The honest truth is that I didn’t like it,” says the ITV star. “Lisa and Zak were the only characters whose relationship was as solid as a rock and I felt that was a good thing for the village.”

Recent episodes have seen Zak fall for lodger Joanie Wright, with a steamy clinch between the two of them set to be witnessed by Zak’s daughter Belle. The Christmas Day visit to Emmerdale will have viewers on tenterhooks as they wait to see whether Lisa will learn of the infidelity as Belle considers revealing the truth at the family meal table.

On the topic of Zak’s cheating, Cox added: “We don’t have control over what happens with our stories. We’re here to tell the stories as best we can. And these things do happen. You read about people in their 70s who suddenly aren’t with each other any more. So, in lots of ways, it’s a very human story, although I might not personally like it.”
