Alicia Metcalfe (Natalie Anderson) is to be left traumatised by a new confrontation with troubled Lachlan White (Thomas Atkinson). Scenes to be shown next week will Lachlan return from holiday, only to terrify Alicia when he corners her in the village shop.
“Lachlan wants to have his say, brand her a liar and tell her that she’s ‘brought what happened upon herself’,” says actress Natalie Anderson. “I feel that there’s a bit of Lachlan that really did love Alicia, so he’s feeling hurt now that she’s shut him down. Lachlan isn’t necessarily predatory. In fact, he actually thinks that what he’s saying is right. But that’s what is so wrong about the situation.”
Last month, viewers saw Lachlan sexually assault Alicia as she lay sleeping, only to then claim that she was the one who had been grooming him. The lie has driven a wedge between the Metcalfes and the Whites, with Lachlan’s mum Chrissie (Louise Marwood) determined to seek retribution through the courts for what she sees as Alicia’s wrongdoing.
But next week’s episodes will see Chrissie witness Alicia’s panicked reaction in the shop when – after Lachlan tries to touch her – she starts to hurl items at him from off the shelf.
“Alicia is completely terrified and tells Lachlan that he must go. But then she goes completely hysterical and starts throwing things at him,” continues Anderson. “Alicia does have a history of assault [she was sentenced to a year in prison after punching Val Pollard] and Chrissie now says that she assaulted her son. So Alicia is dealing with the initial sexual assault and being accused of grooming Lachlan. And she’s now kind of committed an assault herself.”
