Emmerdale star Sammy Winward quits Katie Addyman role?

The actress is reportedly set to leave after 13 years on the ITV soap

Actress Sammy Winward is reportedly set to exit Emmerdale after 13 years playing Katie Addyman.

Winward, 29. apparently told show bosses that she was to quit after filming key Christmas episodes that see her character remarry childhood sweetheart Andy Sugden (Kelvin Fletcher).

An Emmerdale spokesperson declined to comment to RadioTimes.com, but it is believed that Winward has decided to depart in order to concentrate on other acting roles.

A source told the Sun: “Sammy is the Michelle Keegan of Emmerdale so everyone’s gutted she’s leaving”.

During her time on the soap, Winward’s most notable storylines included Katie having an affair with Andy’s half-brother Robert back in 2004, while more recent events saw Katie injured after being trapped down a disused mine shaft. As to whether Katie will now be killed off, the source added:

“The producers haven’t decided yet. Emmerdale love a big death because it’s great for their ratings.”
