EastEnders: Jack gives up custody of Matthew following visit from Charlie’s wife Liz

Jack was seen making the emotional decision in scenes just broadcast on BBC1

EastEnders’ Jack Branning has made the emotional decision to give custody of Ronnie’s son Matthew to bitter rival Charlie Cotton.

Tonight’s episode of the soap saw Charlie’s wife Liz arrive on the scene and convince Jack that they were more than capable of looking after Matthew.

Painting a picture of idyllic family life in Ireland, Jack then began to contemplate the idea of handing over the boy he’s been raising as his own.

The turning point came though when a torn Jack turned to Mick for support, the Queen Vic landlord pointing out that Jack already knew in his heart what course of action he should take.

A heartbroken Jack then called Liz and told her that he wouldn’t be contesting the residency application, all of which looks set to result in young Matthew leaving Walford forever.

So has Max finally succeeded in parting Jack from Ronnie’s boy? Or will a beleaguered Jack discover what his brother has been planning before it’s too late?
