Could this be the fateful moment when Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater) came face to face with the person who killed her?
The BBC has released brand-new images of the special flashback episode (set to air on Thursday 19 February) that will trace Lucy’s final moments last Easter, as viewers get to find out not only how she met her fatal end but also why.
In the pictures, Lucy is seen writing a letter, but she is interrupted by the arrival of someone. Just who is it? And what happened to the letter that Lucy was in the middle of composing?
As can be seen from the image below, Lucy’s jewellery box – in which she hid her stash of cocaine – is just in the corner of the shot. The tune that the box plays is, as viewers recently learned, the last thing Lucy heard before she met her maker. So could the jewellery box also be the murder weapon?
Lucy’s body was discovered on Walford Common over Easter 2014, but the police did subsequently tell the Beales that she was moved there after her demise. So was she killed back at No 45 Albert Square? And who is responsible for the murder?
Speaking to Radio Times about who she thinks murdered her character, actress Hetti Bywater said: “I want it to be Peter. And I’ve dreamt that he did it – he’d been planning it for months, so it was totally premeditated. It was a really dark side of Peter that we hadn’t seen before.
“But part of me thinks it would give the public a shock if it turned out that Lucy committed suicide. Who killed Lucy? Lucy!”
