Kim Fox’s bed and breakfast could be renamed in the light of Andy Murray’s Wimbledon win.
In a specially filmed scene to be shown during this evening’s episode (BBC1, 7.30pm), Kim (Tameka Empson) will be seen discussing with Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) the possibility of turning Kim’s Palace into the Wimbledon Palace.
A show spokesperson said of the insert: “We always like to mark big events and Andy Murray’s victory is certainly one of those.”
Andy Murray’s straight-sets win over Novak Djokovic on Sunday afternoon was watched by a peak audience of more than 17 million viewers on BBC1.
This isn’t the first time that EastEnders has marked topical news stories with last-minute drop-in scenes. In 2012, the achievements of Team GB were marked with a scene featuring Jean, Tyler and Ray discussing how proud they felt to be living in London. Previous scene additions referenced Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton, the 2010 general election, Michael Jackson’s death and the presidency of Barack Obama.
