EastEnders star Jo Joyner joins Chris Addison in new Sky comedy Trying Again

The eight-part series is co-created by The Thick of It's Simon Blackwell and will air in the UK on Sky Living

Outgoing EastEnders star Jo Joyner is to star alongside Chris Addison in new Sky Living comedy Trying Again.

The 35-year-old actress, who plays Tanya Cross in the BBC1 soap, will star as Meg, a woman trying to mend her relationship with Matt (Chris Addison) after she has an affair with her boss. Other cast members include Charles Edwards (Holy Flying Circus, Downton Abbey) and stand-up comic Alun Cochrane.

The eight-part Trying Again has been co-created by Addison and Oscar- and Emmy-award-nominated writer Simon Blackwell, who has worked on both Veep and The Thick of It.

Speaking today, Joyner said: “I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting project with such a wonderful team of not just actors, but writers and creatives. As an actor it is very exciting to be part of a project like this right from the beginning and have a true creative input.”

Chris Addison added: “We’ve been dying to make this show for years so it’s really exciting to be getting it off the ground with such a great cast.”

Joyner filmed her final scenes on EastEnders in May after nearly seven years playing one half of the show’s most popular couples alongside Jake Wood (Max Branning). Tweeting on the day of her departure, the actress commented: “That’s a wrap! I am officially ‘that woman that use to play thingy in ‘Enders’! Thanks to the lovely @mrjakedwood for such a special time x.”
