EastEnders: Marc Elliott – Fans might not be 100% happy with Christian and Syed’s exit

Plus John Partridge says the soap "should bring in some hot new gay guys” to replace the pair

Christian and Syed are set to depart EastEnders next week, but fans are keen to know whether it will be an upbeat ending for the pair following the recent heartache in their marriage. Marc Elliott, who plays Syed Masood, isn’t sure that viewers will be completely contented:

“I think they’ve accepted that it’s time for the characters to hang up their boots – but I’m not sure they’ll be 100 per cent happy. We’ll have to wait and see what the reaction is like.”

He did, though, praise the content of their final episode: “The writer, Pete Lawson, was very careful in looking back over their story, and has written a very detailed argument for both of them. I hope it comes across well and explains why the characters have behaved the way they have over the last three-and-a-half years.”

John Partridge, who plays Christian Clarke, has also spoken of his feelings about leaving the BBC1 soap:

“I’ll always be an avid fan of the show,” he said. “They should bring in some hot new gay guys – out with the old and in with the new.”

Speaking to Inside Soap about his working relationship with co-star Elliott, the actor added: “I’ve learned so much from Marc – in fact, I said that to him as we were leaving. Some of it I liked, some of it I didn’t. But we’re like brothers, we really are. I’ve made a friend for life in Marc.”

John Partridge and Marc Elliott’s final episode of EastEnders can be seen on Thursday 15 November at 7.30pm on BBC1
