Coronation Street has announced the castings of two new members of the Connor clan.
When Aidan Connor – played by X Factor winner Shayne Ward – makes his debut next month, he will later be joined by his sister Kate and their dad Johnny.
Kate will be played by theatre star Faye Brookes, whose credits include Shrek and Legally Blonde. Self-made man Johnny is to be portrayed by Richard Hawley, best known for playing Helen Mirren’s sidekick DS Richard Haskons in Prime Suspect.
Aidan is to arrive in Weatherfield after being contacted by his cousin Michelle (Kym Marsh) in order to come to the rescue of Carla (Alison King), who viewers have already seen becoming increasingly addicted to gambling.
Next will come ruthless businessman Johnny, who is set to be at loggerheads with his son, while Kate – who is engaged to be married to a soldier by the name of Tess – is described as being a “vibrant young woman full of fun and mischief”. Both will turn up in late September after discovering that Aidan has invested in the Underworld factory on the Street.
