After five years, Ozark season 4, part 2 has finally brought the series to an end, and the Netflix show certainly went out with a bang.

It was back in 2017 that we first met Chicago accountant Marty Bryde in season 1 as he accepted an offer to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel in exchange for the safety of his family.

By the time we got to season 4, part 1, which landed back in January, Marty and his wife Wendy (Laura Linney) were up to their eyeballs in that cartel. They’d set up a casino to launder millions, had blood on their hands and were attempting to negotiate with both the cartel and the FBI to strike a deal for their freedom.

However, it wasn't at all plain sailing as a number of obstacles rose in the form of the FBI, grieving Byrde employee Ruth Langmore (Inventing Anna star Julia Garner), and even from within the Byrde family itself, setting up a dramatic final set of episodes, which have now arrived on the streamer.

But the arrival of the fourth and final set of episodes is a bittersweet moment for many Ozark fans, who will be sad to see the back of the show.

And they’re not the only ones: Ozark star Laura Linney can’t quite bring herself to say goodbye to the show and its cunning matriarch, Wendy Byrde, either.

“It’s kind of bittersweet," she told Vanity Fair. "We’re all so proud, and we’ve all had such a good time together, and I think we’re all very aware of what a rare situation it was."

She continued: "So there’s not a second that has been taken for granted... The reality that this group will probably never be reunited again is always really hard. When you’re in it, you never think it will end. And then, when it’s over, it feels very far away.”

In addition, Linney’s co-star Julia Garner revealed that saying goodbye to her castmates after filming on season 4 wrapped was "really, really hard” and “one of the saddest weeks”.

"I could shoot Ozark for the rest of my life, selfishly," Garner told EW.

“I feel like Ozark changed all of our lives for different reasons. So when you have a life-changing experience, you're always going to be connected to those people."

So, what did the final instalment of episodes bring? Read on for everything we know about Ozark season 4 part 2.

How many episodes are in season 4 of Ozark?

Ozark season 4 has been split into two parts, with a total of 14 episodes set to air in 2022.

Ozark season 4 part 1 consists of seven instalments.

Ozark season 4 part 2 consists of seven episodes.

Showrunner Chris Mundy recently explained the decision to split up season 4.

Alfonso Herrera as Javi in Ozark season 4 part 2 Netflix

He told The Wrap: "We always thought five [seasons] was the outside number. It just felt like after that – we didn’t want to repeat ourselves, we didn’t want the show to feel like it was continuing because it was a TV show and it had to continue.

"So really the decision has always been between is it four [seasons] or is it five [seasons]. And then Netflix hit upon the idea of saying, ‘We’ll do four but we’ll make it long and split it in this way,' and that felt perfect.”

So, now we wait.

Ozark season 4 part 2 cast

The core Ozark cast members have all returned for the final run of episodes.

  • Jason Bateman as Martin "Marty" Byrde
  • Laura Linney as Wendy Byrde
  • Sofia Hublitz as Charlotte Byrde
  • Skylar Gaertner as Jonah Bryde
  • Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore
  • Jessica Frances Dukes as Maya Miller
  • Felix Solis as Omar Navarro
  • Damian Young as Jim Rattelsford
  • Alfonso Herrera as Javier "Javi" Elizonndro
  • Adam Rothberg as Mel Sattem

Of course, Jason Bateman will reprise his role as Martin "Marty" Byrde once again, acting opposite Laura Linney as his ambitious wife and accomplice Wendy Byrde.

Additionally, Sofia Hublitz and Skylar Gaertner will return as the couple's children Charlotte and Jonah Byrde, respectively, in the upcoming episodes.

Jonah has been more rebellious in recent episodes, while Charlotte has grown even closer to her mother.

Julia Garner will also be back as Ruth Langmore, Marty's former protégée, for the new episode and she will have revenge in mind.

Meanwhile, Jessica Frances Dukes will also return in her role as FBI forensic accountant Maya Miller who arrested cartel kingpin Omar Navarro at the end of part 1 but turned on him to avoid him escaping justice.

Felix Solis will also be back as Navarro himself, who is plotting to make his own comeback from prison.

Elsewhere, Damian Young will also be back as the Byrdes' ally Jim Rattelsdorf, while Alfonso Herrera will be back as Navarro's hot-headed nephew and lieutenant, Javier "Javi" Elizonndro, who has agreed to provide intelligence to the FBI.

Finally, Adam Rothenberg will be back as private investigator Mel Sattem, but will he realise that Ben Davis was not responsible for the death of Helen Pierce and the connection to the Byrdes?

Two main characters who will not be returning are lovers Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) and Wyatt Langmore (Charlie Tahan) who were brutally murdered by Javier in the finale of part 1, prompting Ruth to seek vengeance in the final episodes.

However, there is always the opportunity for the pair to appear via flashbacks or dream sequences.

Also, could any other characters make some surprise comebacks?

Is Ozark season 4 the final season?

Yes, Ozark season 4 is the final season of the show.

Netflix has confirmed that season 4 is the end of the line for Ozark, but it seems content on making the finale a genuine television event.

Not only will the season have an expanded 14-episode run, but it will also be released in two separate batches of seven, spreading out the suspense even further.

Ending on season 4 appears to be a slight variation from the original plan hinted at by showrunner Chris Mundy, who previously suggested that the show could go on for longer.

"We’ve always talked about it as five seasons," he said during a panel discussion with The Hollywood Reporter. "It could be four, it could be seven… but that always seemed like a good number to us."

At a SAG Awards panel, however, the cast said it makes sense for the series to end with its fourth season before it is drawn out longer than necessary.

Omar Navarro actor Felix Solis told Deadline: “All good things must come to an end. This was a good job that must come to an end. We don’t want to wait until it’s not good for it end.”

It looks hopeful that the crime show will stick the landing too - with Skylar Gaertner, who plays Jonah Byrde, also telling Deadline that the production team "pull all the stops with the finale”.

“We have so much confidence that everyone’s going to pull it off perfectly,” Gaertner said, adding that this season's experimental storytelling will play with the surviving characters.

Although showrunner Chris Mundy previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he had "always talked about it as as five seasons", he's since expressed his excitement at ending – and doing justice to – the Byrde family saga in the extended fourth season.

The acclaimed crime drama promises to bring the Byrde's family criminal relationship with the Navarro drug cartel to a dramatic and "great" conclusion.

Speaking about the final, extended season, Mundy also told Gold Derby: “Knowing it’s the end and to write to an end is really helpful. But getting a little more time to tell it is great honestly.”

Catch the clip below.

It seems consequences are well and truly on the way for the Byrde family.

As if that wasn't enough, the show released a farewell video on Thursday 14th April 2022 as the cast and crew bid farewell to the Byrde's family home in the show and - by extension - the series.

The seven-minute clip features interviews with Jason Bateman, Laura Linney and more.

It's bound to be an emotional goodbye to our favourite characters.

The trailer for Ozark season 4 part 1 was released on Thursday 6th January 2022, showing that Marty and Wendy would face some dangerous threats in the upcoming first half of the season.

The footage shows off some action-packed scenes including car crashes, violent clashes and nasty threats being shared.

The full trailer followed teaser trailers being released last year, but this full trailer gave us the best look at the episodes – and had us worried if our favourite characters would survive.

Ozark season 3 ending explained

As we've come to expect from the drama, Ozark season 3 managed to pack an awful lot of action into its 10-episode run.

Marty was taken captive by crime boss Omar Navarro (Felix Solis), while things weren't any more rosy for Wendy who was forced to put a hit out on her own brother in a bid to save the rest of her family from the wrath of the cartel.

Meanwhile, the season also saw Ruth grow increasingly unhappy with her connection to the Byrdes - eventually joining with Darlene and agreeing to a deal with the KC Mob.

How did Helen Pierce die in Ozark?

Helen Pierce was murdered by Navarro via a gunshot right in front of the Byrdes in the Ozark season 3 finale.

The cartel lawyer had wanted Marty and Wendy dead so that she could take over their business, making her one of Ozark's most threatening antagonists - that is, until she was unexpectedly shot in the head in Mexico.

Hiro Koda, the stunt coordinator who orchestrated the brutal scene, told Express.co.uk: "When Helen was killed at the end, that was a very challenging sequence to do. It turned out perfectly and looked amazing but we had to work out her placement.

"We had to work out how much debris and blood would come out on top of Wendy and Marty, and seeing her fall - there were no stunt doubles. It's about precise timings."

Helen had been played by English actress Janet McTeer, whose past credits include Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix and Glenn Close drama Albert Nobbs, for which she was Oscar-nominated.

Speaking to Deadline, McTeer revealed that she knew in advance that Helen would be killed off, before describing her reaction to the death scene: "When I read it [in the script] I laughed out loud. It's always good fun when you get a really good death."

The consequences of Helen's murder are still being felt in the final episodes, with investigations into Helen's disappearance taking place.

Thankfully for the Byrdes, it seems that Charlotte scared off Helen's daughter from exposing her mother's death.

Is Ben Davis dead in Ozark?

Yes, Ben Davis is dead.

Wendy's bipolar brother Ben features heavily in the third season of Ozark and is pivotal to the fast-moving final few episodes.

And although clearly the series had lead us to believe that Ben had been killed, some fans remained convinced that there was a further twist to come in that plot.

We didn't actually see the body, but the latest episodes gave us an update on Ben's fate.

So, sadly, there will be no surprise reprieve for troubled Ben.
