Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan – 6:50pm, Film4

In the second big-screen instalment in the sci-fi franchise, Admiral James T Kirk (William Shatner) returns to the Enterprise in the 23rd century and faces a fight to the death with an old enemy.

War of the Worlds – 8:00pm, BBC3

Sci-fi thriller based on HG Wells’s novel and directed by Steven Spielberg. Divorced father Tom Cruise attempting to protect his family from rampaging alien war machines that threaten to destroy human life.

Jaws – 10:00pm, ITV4

Classic Spielberg adventure thriller in which a giant killer shark traumatises a seaside town. Police chief Roy Scheider teams up with a fisherman and a marine biologist to thwart the lethal predator.

American Beauty – 10:15pm, Sky Modern Greats

Oscar-winning black-comedy drama starring Kevin Spacey as the businessman drawn to the friend of his teenager daughter, who then begins a relationship of her own.

Billy Madison – 10:45pm, ITV2
