Stories and fictional friends were a huge part of our world during childhood – and Roald Dahl‘s whimsical tales were no exception. From book-loving Matilda and James’s magical peach to Sophie and her Big Friendly Giant, there’s no denying Dahl’s tales, which are still as popular today as they were when they were first printed, speak to children in a unique way.
But those messages don’t cease to be important once we stop growing (upwards, at least) and head out into the big, bad world of adulthood. In fact, as grouchy, grumpy, grown-ups we’d be wise to remember these clever, kind and witty words.
To mark Roald Dahl Day we’ve rounded up 12 of the author’s best quotes.
