The Grim Reaper looks set to pay another visit to Weatherfield this year as Coronation Street plans an explosive stunt that could kill off a main character.
The inferno is reported to be the first major plotline for new producer Kate Oates, who is ready to make a big impact after moving to Corrie from Emmerdale.
Coronation Street has a long tradition of putting its residents in grave danger thanks to fires at the Rovers Return and the Underworld factory. Last Friday’s episode of the ITV soap also saw Kylie Platt die in a fatal stabbing.
Now it is believed that Oates has drafted in director Tony Prescott – who helmed Corrie and Emmerdale’s recent live specials – to ensure that the episode goes with a bang.
A source told The Sun: “This is going to be up there with some of the best scenes in Corrie history. Characters are going to be crawling through flames to escape, and there’s talk of killing at least one character.
“The plans being put together and Kate bringing in Tony shows that it’s going to be far from a straightforward one. Tony is considered one of the big guns of directing because he’s great with complicated and intense storylines.”
Coronation Street declined to comment to RadioTimes.com about the speculation.
