Meet the characters and cast of Fearless

Peaky Blinders star Helen McCrory appears alongside John Bishop, Michael Gambon, Jonathan Forbes and Wunmi Mosaku in the ITV thriller

John Bishop as Steve Livesey

Who does he play?

Steve is Emma’s boyfriend who she met on a previous case years ago when he was a press photographer. Says Bishop: “She is a human rights lawyer and he is a freelance photographer. He likes to go to the pub with his mates and watch football, which makes me feel I was slightly typecast! Steve is a lot more laid back than she is, but there is a balance within their relationship which comes out as the story develops. It becomes apparent that although Steve appears completely opposite to Emma, in terms of having her drive and ambition, they are exactly what they need for each other.”

Where have I seen John before?

A regular presenter and stand-up comedian, the last time he acted in a TV drama was in two films for Jimmy McGovern’s dark anthology series The Accused five years ago.

Michael Gambon as Sir Alastair McKinnon

Who does he play?

Master of a Cambridge College, Alastair McKinnon is an influential and highly-respected academic and former Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Office. He appears to have a close interest in this case – and a ruthless determination to ensure that Emma cannot do her job properly.

Where have I seen Michael before?

A giant of stage and screen, he is perhaps most famous for taking over the role of Albus Dumbedore from the late Richard Harris in the Harry Potter films. Michael is also known for TV series The Singing Detective and Maigret and has more recently appeared in The Casual Vacancy and Fortitude. In a career that spans over 50 years he’s also had numerous stage roles, winning three Oliviers.

Robin Weigert as Heather Myles

Who does she play?

Heather Myles lives in Washington and is a former CIA employee who now works as a private contractor in the intelligence industry. She’s a ruthless, forthright, master manipulator. Says the actress: “Heather is an American who appears to be involved in a government cover up. I made a decision not to decide whether she was genuinely sociopathic or just fully owned by her government. So she’s either a person with natural sociopathic tendencies, an ability to make a study of what her own personality is like and deploy it as need be without a moral compass, or someone who became that way over me. She’s lost her moral compass because of what she has been asked to do. I liked painting her in the grey zone between those two.”

Where have I seen Robin before?

Deadwood fans will probably never forget her bad tempered, foul-mouthed Calamity Jane. Robin has also appeared in Sons of Anarchy and Chicago P.D.

Jamie Bamber as Matthew Wild

Who does he play?

Matthew Wild is the Simms’ ambitious local MP. Alongside wife Laura, Matthew is highly-regarded in the community and tipped for leadership of his party in the not-too-distant future. When Emma starts investigating Linda’s murder, Wild is determined to protect the Simms family and tries to convince Emma that she should leave it alone.
