Peter Kay has cancelled his hotly anticipated live stand-up arena tour for 2018 and 2019, citing “unforeseen family circumstances”.
The comedian revealed the news in a statement posted on Twitter, saying “I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.
“My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry.”
Tickets for the tour – Kay’s first in eight years – sold out in minutes when they were released in November, with new dates quickly added.
The shows had been scheduled to run from April 2018 to June 2019.
The statement added that ticket holders for both the stand-up tour and Kay’s Dance for Life shows will be refunded by the original vendors.
