Last night saw the series two finale of BBC thriller Doctor Foster, with Suranne Jones’ troubled GP finally making some sort of peace with her ex-husband Simon (Bertie Carvel) when she prevented him from killing himself.
But in the final moments of the emotional episode, there was one last twist when it emerged that the pair’s son Tom (Tom Taylor) had run away to start a new life, leaving Gemma bereft and alone at the series’ close.
Many fans were blown away by the episode, taking to Twitter to extol its virtues (as well as the series as a whole).
Spent majority of that episode with my heart in my stomach. As much as Simon is a prick, felt rather sad for him. Poor Tom too #DoctorFoster
Still, amongst all these differences of opinion it’s good to know there’s one thing that could unite everyone – making the same awkward joke about how there should be a Doctor Foster/The Missing crossover for series three, as the Fosters and Baptiste track down the errant Tom together.
