Chizzy Akudolu became the first person to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2017, after losing out in a dance battle against entertainer Brian Conley.
The Holby City star and her partner Pasha Kovalev will not be making it through to week three after the judges deemed their foxtrot to ‘I’m a Woman’ by Peggie Lee to be inferior to Conley and Amy Dowden’s cha-cha to ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’ by Peaches and Herb.
The decision came down to the wire, as judges Darcey Bussel and Bruno Tonioli voted to save Brian and Amy, and Craig Revel Horwood plumped for Chizzy and Pasha. The deciding vote fell to head judge Shirley Ballas, who chose to save Conley.
“Well it’s quite a difficult decision,” Ballas said. “I feel that both of them bought quite nice performances there, but the person I’m going to save because I felt like they had a bit more musicality and content this evening is Brian.”
Graceful as ever, Chizzy heaped praise upon her dance partner before bidding the series farewell.
“Thank you to everyone who has supported”, she said. “And this guy [dance partner Pasha]… this dude, I have loved every minute dancing with him, and it will continue because I will just be going round his house to dance now. But I don’t have his address so if anyone could email me I would appreciate it!”
