Liked the Da Vinci Code? Video game-style set pieces? And shots of slo-mo jumping over incredible distances? Then you’ll love the newly-released trailer for the Tomb Raider reboot.

Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) is upper-class archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft, attempting to track down her father (Dominic West) on a mythical island. But rather than being armed with her traditional dual pistols, Croft starts off by relying on climbing axes and a makeshift bow and arrow to survive. You know, exactly as the character does in 2015’s Tomb Raider video game.

Apart from making Croft younger and more vulnerable, this sneak peek contains just the mix of action and humour that was packed into 2001’s Tomb Raider, starring Angelina Jolie. That film too concerned itself with the whereabouts of papa Croft, played then by Jolie’s real dad Jon Voight.

However, by using applauded 2013 and 2015 games Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider as source material, fans will be hoping the reboot can unearth that most elusive of treasures: a good movie based on a video game.

Tomb Raider will be released in the UK on 28th March 2018
