Were you happy to see Noel Fielding bring back the Bake Off’s history segments?

The GBBO host took a trip to Holland to investigate the history of stroopwafel – the first time we've seen a history segment since the show's move to Channel 4

Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding

Remember all Mel and Sue’s little interludes where they headed out to far-flung kitchens to investigate the history of dampfnudel or Viennese whirls or fougasse?

When the Bake Off moved to Channel 4 we thought we had seen the last of these. But we were wrong.

Episode four brought Caramel Week, and with it came Noel Fielding’s first attempt at the historical segment. Bake Off bosses sent him off to Holland to investigate the history of stroopwafel, so after cracking jokes in front of a perplexed-looking Dutch waffle-maker, he got down to business and guided us through through the rags-to-riches story of Holland’s famous national cookie.

Are you delighted to see the return of these “bloody brilliant” historical interludes? Are you excited to see Noel Fielding take on the challenge?

Or do they bore you? Are they just a chance to put the kettle on – no longer needed now the Bake Off has ad breaks?

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on Channel 4
