Mere months after the Mitchell sisters’ sad departure EastEnders has confirmed that another set of the soap’s iconic siblings will be bowing out.

Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) Branning will wave farewell to Albert Square, 11 years after the characters made their debut as Max and Tanya’s young daughters.

Fitzgerald has played Abi since 2006, while Jossa took over the role of Lauren from Madeline Duggan in 2010. She paid tribute to her on-screen sister as the news was announced.

“We can confirm that Jacqueline Jossa and Lorna Fitzgerald will be leaving EastEnders. They have both been wonderful to work with. We wish them all the very best for the future” a spokesperson for the soap said.

The pair, who’ve endured the breakdown of their parents’ marriage, an affair with a cousin, alcoholism and numerous other personal battles, most recently found themselves in a love triangle with Steven Beale.

Pub chef Abi is pregnant with her sister’s dead fiance’s baby and Lauren has absolutely no idea.

It’s not yet clear when the pair will bow out, but with the explosive news about Abi’s pregnancy yet to be revealed – and Steven’s death coming courtesy of dad Max’s attempts to seek revenge against Jane Beale – there’s a good chance the Branning family split could serve as a right Christmas cracker.
