Best known for: Being assistant to the late Paul Daniels, as well as his widow.
Biography: Debbie McGee was born in Kingston upon Thames in 1958. A childhood full of enthusiasm for dance led to her gaining a place at the Royal Ballet School at 16 and after that, a place in the Iranian National Ballet which was cut short by the Islamic Revolution.
This led her to audition for the Bernard Delfont Organisation back in England, which was responsible for putting on many summer shows. It was here that she first met Paul Daniels, performing as his assistant for the first time in 1979. After touring Europe with a dance troupe for a year, she returned to solidify her partnership with Daniels, appearing in his It’s Magic show for 14 months.
McGee shot to national and international fame through appearing on the BBC’s The Paul Daniels Magic Show until 1994, earning her moniker of “The lovely Debbie McGee”. She and Daniels married in 1988.
Nowadays, you can find her on her BBC Radio Berkshire show on Sunday mornings.
