Terminator 2: Judgment Day ★★★★★
In many ways, the star of the second Terminator film is Linda Hamilton, who trained hard to portray future resistance leader Sarah Connor. Directed and co-written by her then-husband James Cameron, it’s an exhibition of intelligent, multiplex-aimed action; a high watermark for expensive blockbusters. Cameron’s masterstroke is flipping Arnold Schwarzenegger from villainous bot to the sequel’s saviour. Edward Furlong’s smart-mouthed relationship with his mechanical protector gives the action its dramatic and humorous backbone. Meanwhile, the shape-shifting antics of the T-1000 terminator (Robert Patrick) showcased the film’s pioneering digital effects.
