The first trailer for The Great British Bake Off has landed… and it’s rather delightful.
The cooking contest – which moved from BBC1 to Channel 4 last year for a whopping £25 million sum – is due to return to screens this autumn and today marks the first time we’ve seen any footage.
Now, before you get too excited, this minute-long tease does not feature any glimpse of the Bake Off tent, nor does it give us a peak of the new line-up which includes returning judge Paul Hollywood along with GBBO newcomers Prue Leith, Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding.
What it does offer is a rather delightful animation with singing dough, singing cake, singing muffins and singing, er, croissants. And the message itself is one of togetherness – a marked choice given the controversy that has surrounded the show since it jumped ship from the BBC.
When the move to C4 was first announced, presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins announced they would not “go with the dough” while Mary Berry also chose to remain loyal to the BBC.
So maybe it should come as no surprise that the trailer for Channel 4’s first series is a show of unity with lyrics like “we all stand togetherrrrrrrr”.
Whether it pays off remains to be seen but eager viewers don’t have long to wait – the brief footage promises GBBO’s return is “coming soon”. Set your timers, bakers!
