What time is it on?

University Challenge returns on Monday 17th July at 8pm

Who’s hosting?

As always it will be Jeremy Paxman asking some of the trickiest questions on TV to the two teams.

Who’s competing?

This first episode of the new series sees Edinburgh University go head to head with Ulster University.

The University of Edinburgh are a mainstay on University Challenge having featured on 16 of the past 23 series. Last year the Edinburgh team managed to reach the semi finals of the competition but were beaten by Balliol College, Oxford. They’ll be hoping to make it one stage further this time round.

On the other side, the University of Ulster will be making their first outing on the show. The team comprises of members from each of the four University campuses and are captained by Iain Jack who studies pharmacology.

Who won last year?

Last year’s final saw Balliol College, Oxford face off against Wolfson, Cambridge, who were captained by cult hero Monkman. Despite Monkman being the star of the show, with his rapid responses, his team were beaten by Oxford. Cambridge will be hoping to take the title back this year.
