Louiza Patikas, best known for playing long-suffering Helen Titchener in the BBC’s radio soap The Archers, is joining Coronation Street.
The actress appears on screen from July as Moira, forthright office manager of the Weatherfield medical centre, who is set to clash with Liz McDonald when she gets a job as the centre’s receptionist.
Patikas’s character in The Archers was at the centre of the soap’s high-profile domestic violence plot, which saw Helen stab husband Rob following years of physical and mental abuse, coercion and sinister manipulation. She stood trial for attempted murder but was acquitted after Rob’s abuse was exposed.
Speaking about her new role, the actress said: “I’m cock-a-hoop to be working on Coronation Street. It’s a fantastic show which I’ve always loved for its superb writing and iconic characters”.
Corrie producer, and one-time boss of The Archers, Kate Oates added: “I’m so excited to welcome Louiza to Corrie. Louiza is no stranger to long-running drama, but as Moira, viewers will get to see another side to her – and enjoy her amazing talent for comedy.”
