Name: Simon Searles
What made him choose to go on Love Island?
He’s actually doing it to meet the love of his life… “I think it’s a show that would really suit who I am and it’s a very unique way of meeting someone. People have found real love and formed solid relationships there. I’m really open to meeting someone that I have a long-term future with.”
How’s his love life been up until now?
Quiet, actually. “Over the past 18 months, I’ve not been sleeping around, I’ve been on a few dates and I’ve been looking for a girlfriend.”
And before that?
He had a girlfriend but he cheated on her, which ended up giving him a slightly bad reputation. He swears he’s changed though, and that’s what makes him unique to the other boys. “I’m quite a reformed character when it comes to relationships – I’m definitely much more mature than I used to be and I’ve made every mistake you can make.”
Simon reckons he’s only broken one girl’s heart though. “We were together for eight years on and off. I think if she saw me on this she’d be happy for me.” You haven’t entirely convinced us with that one there Si…
Who’s Simon got his eye on? Montana and Amber, which could be double trouble for Kem, who’s not only coupled up with Amber but is also a hairdresser just like Simon. We’re hoping to see a cut-off in the villa.
Simon also reckons he’ll get on with Marcel and Jonny, but just as friends…
His biggest nightmare would be a girl who’s trouble, bitchy and unwelcoming to new islanders. “A person who puts a negative vibe out there.” We can think of a couple of those…
Simon doesn’t mind stepping on anyone’s toes. He says he sees the show for what it is and isn’t worried about allegiances when it comes to coupling up. “It’s a game at the end of the day and I’ll expect the same if I stay in the show and another new boy comes in. I don’t feel like I have loyalties. I’ll be polite, but it is what it is.” We can already sense the drama coming…
He’s no commitmentphobe, and wouldn’t mind following in the footsteps of some of last years contestants – so in a year could we see him engaged or having a baby?
“I’m definitely open to all of that. It’s something you have to be open to coming onto a show like this.”
Where have we seen him before?
Avid internet shoppers will have spotted him online, as Simon’s previously modelled for Asos. And while you’d have to have an eagle eye and great memory for faces, there’s just a chance you could have spotted him as an extra on soaps Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Coronation Street.
