Coronation Street’s Christopher Harper has revealed to RadioTimes.com that Bethany’s testimony in court will send sinister groomer Nathan Curtis to prison.
Speaking on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards, Harper said: “The bravery it takes for someone who’s been abused to testify against their abuser is not to be understated. We’re going to be watching Lucy [Fallon] as Bethany take a massive journey. But I’m very pleased that Nathan won’t be around for that.”
As for Nathan’s fate, the actor added: “He’s going down. He’s got to go down. He deserves every minute of sentencing he gets.”
Recent episodes of the ITV soap saw Nathan get arrested after he was paid by three men who planned to gang rape Bethany. However, the vulnerable teen looks set to stay in her abuser’s power in the coming weeks, even going so far as to make an attempt to run away with him.
But show boss Kate Oates has already said that she wants Bethany to find the power to “save herself” from Nathan:
“We’ll see Bethany being active in saving herself. This is a story for feminists – I really want her to take some of that power back.”
