Harry Reid and Jamie Borthwick have teased what’s in store for Phil Mitchell’s much-anticipated return to EastEnders.
Speaking on the red carpet at this evening’s British Soap Awards, the actors, who play Ben Mitchell and Jay Brown, revealed Steve McFadden was already back on set having taken a break earlier this year following Phil’s dramatic liver transplant storyline.
This means fans won’t have to wait too long for Phil to reappear on screen, and Borthwick said it will be suitably thrilling.
“It kicks off quite quickly when he gets back. There’s big stuff going on with the Mitchell family.”
Reid continued: “Our producer Sean O’Connor got it right when he said in a recent interview that we get a very different Phil upon his return. I personally have missed the real Phil that we know being on screen, he’d been ill for such a long time. I’m really looking forward to him coming back.”
McFadden was last seen on screen in January after his character had a life-saving liver transplant. Phil then went abroad to recuperate with wife Sharon, who returned without her husband explaining he would be back soon after visiting little brother Grant in Portugal.
