Seth MacFarlane’s Star Trek parody series The Orville sets phasers to fun in first-look trailer

It’s already a less chaotic production than Star Trek: Discovery

If the mounting delays for upcoming Star Trek TV series Star Trek: Discovery are leaving you impatient for some Final Frontier action, then you might just find some succour in this new series from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.

Called The Orville, the series is more or less a straight parody of the Star Trek franchise (though apparently featuring some serious elements), starring MacFarlane as a starship captain forced to work alongside his ex-wife (Agents of SHIELD’s Adrianne Palacki) on an exploratory vessel as they find new worlds, protect the innocent and presumably spend ages ironing their uniforms.

(I mean, who does the laundry in these kind of space journeys? Do they have a whole team of people keeping those tunics crease-free? That’s always bothered me.)

Anyway, the first trailer for the series (the first episode of which is directed by Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau) has arrived alongside US network Fox’s other new offerings, giving you a sense of how exactly this show will go where no show (except, er, Star Trek) has gone before.
