EastEnders denies Danniella Westbrook return

There are "no plans" for a Sam Mitchell comeback

EastEnders has denied Danniella Westbrook is returning as Sam Mitchell.

The actress appeared on Loose Women today (11 May) and appeared to confirm she was reprising the role “later this year.” When asked by the panel about a possible Walford reappearance, Westbrook, who recently left a rehab centre in Spain, said there was “a very good chance” of playing Sam again.

But when asked about the claims, a spokesperson from the BBC confirmed to RadioTimes.com that “there are no plans for Danniella to return.”

Westbrook’s last stint on the soap was just over a year ago when Sam attended the funeral of her mother Peggy, following Barbara Windsor’s high-profile departure as the Mitchell matriarch. Sam appeared in four episodes and was last seen leaving her son Ricky in Albert Square with his estranged father Jack Branning, as she confided to the family she couldn’t handle the pressures of motherhood and returned to her home in Portugal.

It’s a good thing Sam’s not making a comeback, seeing as Jack’s already at risk of losing stepson Matthew to real dad Charlie Cotton who’s turned up after two years wanting access to the little boy. But somehow we doubt Sam’s missing Ricky that much…
