Rhona Goskirk returned to Emmerdale tonight with son Leo – but without her abusive husband Pierce Harris.
Friends of the village vet assumed she was enjoying her honeymoon with her new spouse, completely unaware that Pierce raped her on their wedding day. Manipulating Rhona into not pressing charges against him, Pierce has thus far got away with his brutal assault on his wife and was last seen leaving Emmerdale alone.
In tonight’s episode, Rhona was greeted by close pal Paddy Kirk who innocently asked if she’d enjoyed her honeymoon. Put on the spot, Rhona told Paddy she and Pierce had split up because he knew about their illicit kiss in the run-up to the wedding and confronted her just after the ceremony.
A shocked Paddy questioned whether Pierce, known for his violent streak, had been violent with her, but Rhona kept the horrific truth about the assault to herself and insisted he hadn’t.
Shaken by her ordeal, Rhona summoned up the courage to return to the house where the attack took place, and threw a pile of unopened wedding cards on the floor, defiantly vowing to son Leo that “tomorrow is another day…”
Over the next week Rhona will relapse into painkiller addiction and leave the village again to enter rehab, but Pierce’s whereabouts remain a mystery – for now. How long before he reappears?
Will Rhona confess what really happened? Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod has promised there will eventually be reprisals for Pierce, but the controversial storyline is set to run for a while yet…
