Charlie Cotton (Declan Bennett) has made a surprise reappearance in tonight’s episode of EastEnders.
Dot’s grandson hasn’t been seen in Walford since September 2015, but was seen this evening confronting Jack about the future care of his young son Matthew.
As long-time viewers of the BBC1 soap know, Charlie was forced to flee the country after growing fearful that estranged wife Ronnie would seek revenge should he blab about her killing Carl White.
But with Ronnie now dead herself, it seems that Charlie is back in town to lay claim to Matthew, having finally learned about her untimely demise.
Episodes shown over new year saw Glenda Mitchell convince Dot not to tell Charlie about the death of the Mitchell sisters.
But it looks as though master manipulator Max has now put Charlie in the picture about what is going on in Walford.
Max’s revenge plan has already seen him convince the Carters to part company with the Queen Vic’s freehold – now, he looks as though he’ll end up tearing brother Jack’s family set-up apart too. But why does he want to ruin the lives of his neighbours and loved ones?
Having convinced Dot that getting in touch with Charlie is the right thing to do, Max has obviously been working behind the scenes to reunite Matthew with his biological father.
And with Jack already struggling to parent three children single-handed, will he buckle under this fresh pressure of having to battle Charlie too? And what exactly will be the returnee’s demands?
