Freeview film of the day: Run Fatboy Run

He ran away on his wedding day, now Simon Pegg is running to win back his ex in this cheeky underdog comedy

Run Fatboy Run ★★★
9.00-11.00pm ITV2

Proof as far back as 2007 that Simon Pegg could rescue a film. This David Schwimmer-directed romantic comedy was written by an American, Michael Ian Black, but rewritten by Pegg for a British setting. He also stars as Dennis, jilter of pregnant fiancée (and future Line of Duty star) Thandie Newton, who vows to win her back by competing in a London marathon. With Pegg’s trademark mastery of the self-effacing, both physical and verbal, Hank Azaria full-on as his fit nemesis and a chorus of familiar Britcom faces (Dylan Moran, Simon Day, Peter Serafinowicz), only the family bonding feels like American leftovers. Along with the blatant Nike product placement. Pegg’s rom-zom-com Shaun of the Dead is on ITV2 on Friday.
