The How I Met Your Mother spin-off is back in the works, featuring a whole new cast of characters.
How I Met Your Father will follow the same flash-back format as the popular CBS sitcom, where the main character narrates the story of how they met their future spouse – except this time it will be told from a woman’s perspective.
New writers are on board for this renewed pitch, with Issac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us set to pen the script.
The latest effort follows the 2014 attempt at a spin-off called How I Met Your Dad – a pilot starring Greta Gerwig and Meg Ryan which CBS decided not to pick it up .
How I Met Your Mother ran for nine series from 2005 to 2014, and ended with Ted finally meeting ‘the mother’ only for it to be revealed that she had died six years earlier. The conclusion was so controversial that the show’s creators had to release an alternative ending.
The series starred Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel and Neil Patrick Harris, none of whom are due to appear in the spin-off.
