Masood Ahmed and his son Kamil have left Albert Square in an emotional episode of EastEnders just broadcast on BBC1.
Masood – who has been a staple part of life in Walford since 2007 – exited for a new life in Pakistan after re-establishing relations with ex-wife Zainab.
Despite Denise’s last-ditch attempt to convince him to stay, Masood opted to say goodbye after explaining that there were too many ghosts and painful memories in the neighbourhood.
Tearjerking scenes also saw him say a silent prayer by a tree planted in the memory of Zaair, daughter Shabnam’s son who was stillborn in September last year.
Actor Nitin Ganatra recently told RadioTimes.com that he will be seen next in the Channel 5 series Corfu Kitchen, a new travelogue cookery show.
As for whether we’ve really seen the last of Masood, the star added: “I’d love to come back. I really love the character and I still think there’s something about Masood that we haven’t discovered yet.
“He’s still got a lot of surprises in him. It’s just that after nine years, I need to go off and do some movies and stage work again. But I’ve made such good friends here. And it would be a privilege to come back.”
So perhaps we should expect that taxi to be wending its way back to Walford at some point in the future.
