The rambutan is a small fruit native to South-East Asia. It is closely related to the lychee and once peeled looks and tastes very similar. It is mainly distinguished by the fronds that cover its outer skin – the name ‘rambutan’ comes from the Malay-Indonesian word rambut, meaning “hair”.
