EastEnders: Lee Carter’s real job is revealed

An under-pressure Lee was shown struggling as a sales rep in a call centre

EastEnders viewers left feeling dubious about Lee Carter’s high-flying job have had their suspicions confirmed: he’s really working in telesales trying to convince customers to switch their energy supplier.

Scenes just broadcast on BBC1 saw Lee struggling in the call centre where he actually spends his days thanks to opposition from colleagues, poor sales results and a reprimand from his line manager.

An uncomfortable confrontation saw Lee’s boss discover that he’d lied about being sick last Friday – a quick internet search and a glimpse at his wedding band being enough to prove that he’d skived work to get wed. The result? Lee got docked a day’s wages.

The trouble is that Lee’s family are still under the impression that he’s landed an executive post at a City firm, when in reality he’s crumbling under the pressure of providing for new wife Whitney.

Last week’s episodes even saw him sink into debt after taking out a payday loan in order to give his bride a day to remember.

The character of Lee has previously been depicted as suffering with depression following his discharge from the Army. Tonight’s developments will no doubt give fans fearing for his mental health even more cause for concern.

Actor Danny-Boy Hatchard, who has played Lee since 2014, is set to leave EastEnders in the months ahead, although show bosses are currently remaining tight lipped about his exit storyline.
