Coronation Street to air Marc Anwar’s final scenes as Sharif Nazir tonight

Sharif's seven-year affair with Sonia will be exposed in this evening's double bill

The final Coronation Street scenes featuring Marc Anwar – who was sacked from his role as Sharif Nazir back in September – will air this evening.

Friday’s double bill will see Yasmeen confront her husband Sharif over his seven-year affair with family friend Sonia – a tense showdown that looks set to ruin grandson Zeedan and fiancee Rana’s engagement party.

On Monday, Zeedan will learn that Sharif hasn’t turned up for work, while Yasmeen is later seen clutching a letter from Sharif announcing that he’s left for good.

Marc Anwar was dismissed after posting alleged “racially offensive” comments on Twitter. The actor – who had played Sharif Nazir since February 2014 – had his contract with Corrie terminated with immediate effect after branding Indian people “b******ds” and “p**s-drinking c**ts”.

ITV said in a statement: “We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar. We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”

Following Sharif’s exit, the current storyline will switch focus to the remaining members of the Nazir family, who will be seen struggling to cope with the fallout from the betrayal.
