The stars of Coronation Street pay tribute to Jean Alexander

Sally Dynevor, Kevin Kennedy and Antony Cotton were among those praising the late actress, who played Hilda Ogden for 23 years


Coronation Street stars past and present have been paying tribute to Jean Alexander, who has died at the age of 90.


As pinny-wearing charlady Hilda Ogden, Alexander was a staple part of the Street for 23 years. The character’s malapropisms and busybody antics were beloved both by the public and those closest to Corrie – leading today’s tributes on Twitter was Sally Dynevor who, as Sally Webster, shared scenes with Alexander during her final years on the soap:

Dynevor’s co-star Antony Cotton cited Hilda’s Christmas Day exit in 1987 (still the show’s highest-rated episode) as his own personal favourite.
