Terminator 2: Judgment Day ★★★★★
The apparently finite dystopian franchise reached a sort-of conclusion with rebooted fifth instalment Terminator: Genisys last year, where Arnold Schwarzenegger reprised his role as the titular T-800 cyborg. He’s at his best in this, the bona-fide classic, directed and co-written by James Cameron as an exhibition match of intelligent, witty, noisy multiplex-aimed action. Cameron’s masterstroke is flipping Arnie from the villainous bot of the first film to saviour. Edward Furlong plays the boy who will one day save humanity, John Connor, while the shape-shifting antics of the T-1000 terminator (Robert Patrick) showcase the film’s pioneering effects – old hat now, but it doesn’t matter.
